Newsletter #10 / Autumn-winter updates
Shows, talks, London, #cannotwritecreativelywhenI'mhighonpaint
Going with the theme of this year’s breakneck speed (hello winter already!), I’m getting straight to the point of sharing the latest news and updates from my studio.
1. Coming up: “Enrooting” at Mandy Zhang Art, London
Opens November 21, 6-8 pm | 16 Seymour Place, W1H 7NG
Thrilled to share that I’m participating in a group show at Mandy Zhang Art, which opens next week. Would love to see whoever can make it. Show runs till January 7, 2025.
I feel fortunate for Mandy Zhang Art’s trust and support and for putting together this show. Looking forward to seeing the mix next week!
2. Ongoing: “Of Lands and Wonders” - solo show of paintings from 2018-2022
30th September 2024 - 10th January 2025 | 2 Gresham Street, EC2V 7BX
10 paintings from 2018-2022, which was a period of transition in my work, are on view in an unusual location for artists -- a corporate building in the city!
It feels like a bit of a full circle for me, as years ago when I worked in Consulting and Real Estate in one such corporate building, I used to dream of disrupting the space through paintings, drawings and projections. Almost a decade later, this is happening in the City of London. The show is being organised by Felstead Arts - a new entrant based in East London, who organise shows in the City.
More from the show here.
My paintings at this show explore the themes of dreams, ecology, cartography and the figure-ground relationship. Some of the older paintings on view were made in Kenya, from studies of both the bustling districts Nairobi and ruins from the ancient city of Gede, coastal Kenya.
It a 1 minute walk from St Paul’s tube. Runs till January 10, 2025.
Was great to see whoever could make it to the opening in September, and thank you to all those who’ve made the time to engage with the show so far!
3. “The Work of Art in the Age of Planetary Destruction”, book launched last month!
Late October saw an afternoon of art, film, and discussion around art, consequence, and our planet in celebration of the launch of The Work of Art in the Age of Planetary Destruction, a book of ideas on engaging with environmental crisis collected from 32 artists, curators, photographers, writers from across the world. A Wellcome Trust x UCL project.
Great afternoon put together by Dr Aarathi Prasad and Dr David Osrin and UCL East.
